What flower is on this Superior Homes and Gardens magazine coating?

Flower Garden Magazine

I recently purchased the “second printing” of Superior Homes and Gardens’ “Simple Garden Guide: No-Failure Flowers.” It has a number of garden plants, chiefly flowers, of course, however nowhere in the manual can I find the flower represented on the cover.

It’s a lovely violet flower with an odd look around it.

The stamen are very pronounced, green, and they appear to be curling back on themselves.

The petals, apart from being, well, purple, look a lot like leaves.

The leaves themselves are really more like a group of stalks than factual leaves.

The full plant appear to be extremely pointy, entire over the place, apart from the stamen.

It’s a gorgeous, weird tiny flower, and I’d like to know if i have the ability to grow it here in Louisiana.

The initial few pages on the within don’t have something mentioning the coating flower from what i have the ability to see. Has any seen this tiny magazine? What print of flower is this?
